Q: Is the work piece guided accurately past the blade by the fence?

A: It is important to have the fence parallel to the blade to guide the cut, but your work piece has to have a straight edge as well. As you push it past the blade use a slight sideways pressure to keep the wood snug against the fence. Don't force it, but don't let it wander either. Always use a push stick for narrow pieces.
